Commercial Time!!! With great pleasure and delight i hereby present the newest larp in the larpland:
MYRIAD!!!
The site is just on line and you can reach it here: http://scourger.its-s.tudelft.nl/myriad/index.html Please visit the first site if you want to see the full visual experience. Highly recommended and it creates the impression of freedom and morality of what this larp is about. The second site is the cut and dry information on a much easier to handle interface. But both sites will give you the same information.
Myriad is created by Julian de Vries, (Vaj on symbols and Baranopsis op BBB) with a host of dedicated SL`s under him. And promises to be a larp with a logical and philosophical outlook.
(But Phalar, i hear you ask, Why are you giving time to this Larp on your blog. Well, I was approached some time ago by Julian to create the ruleset of this larp and i have accepted the position of resident ruleslaywer or RegelSL. The ruleset is created based on Julian his vision. (freedom, options and the avoidance of calls.) and i hope i designed a fair and balanced rulesetting where the player can choose a wide choice of characters within a basic skeleton of rules.)
Please visit the site and let us know what you find of it.
The good, the bad and the dead. Doodspoor is gedaan.
Computerfiles: Find an unhackable systeem voor sna. Guns, knives and ammo: bring more, a lot more.
Inspired by Olga’s last blog entry, I decided to write about the different larp types, I did or I have heard about. Most of these variants have several layers of complexity or overlaps, which I won’t do here because I don’t have the time to write a novel. Each type has it pro’s and cons.
1. The linear plot.
This is by far the simplest form. It works like this A happens, followed by B, followed by C, etc, etc. (A letter can be a monster, a puzzle or any kind of encounter or obstacle) It usually has big finish. (Can be an end boss, ritual or whatever.) This type is excellent for specials, quests or rule tests. The downside is that there is a danger you are doing a lot of railroading and almost forcing the players down a narrow path. In my experience this type can be good fun for an afternoon and can be done very cheaply if you do these in a public nature park and by in your own food in a local super.
2. The flowchart plot
A bit more complex form of the linear plot, in which you have situation A and if the players do option 1 then B happens or if the players do option 2 then C happens. You have to make sure that these are real choices or dilemmas. Death or some other horrible fate is most of the time not a choice at all. Also don’t always betray the players for a “bad” choice. Apart from this using this type can spice up a linear plot or even is a good plot type for an entire weekend.
3. The situation plot.
This is a lot more freeform then the linear plot. Simply toss a situation at the players and see how they handle it and go with the flow with the group. Off course some stupid actions should not succeed but keep an open mind. A plot like this could for instance be a group of player defending a castle under siege or vice a versa. You will act here more as referee.
4. The agenda plot
This is almost the opposite of the linear plot. In this larp 90% of all the SL work is done up front. Your job is to give the players relations to each other and objectives/motivations/agendas of each of the players in the setting. Off course some of these should be contrary to each other. Then lock them in a building and watch the chaos. Add weapons/powers for mayhem. You are there as crew or referee and to control the setting. An example would be a political council. I have also seen this kind of thing together with a war-game. In which the players were the politicians and generals. They would play in turns of halve an hour and then give orders. Which would be then worked by the SL’s as war-game. The players would be given the results of their plans and then the plotting would start again.
Conclusion
Well these are in my eyes the 4 most important larp or plot types and they can all be used for doing a larp story. A larpweekend will usually consist of a series of several types of plot.
For instance: An allied army (the players) is trying to siege a fortress of evil. They have several options to reinforce or augment their final assault but can’t choose all of them. (Plot 2) And they end up choosing as one of the options to get the battering ram of doom of the lizard men. They do a quest for the battering ram. (Plot 1) After doing their stuff the players plan the final assault and execute it. They try to swim the shark invested moot (bad idea) and batter down the gate with the battering ramp of doom. (Good idea) The Sl`s act as referees during this assault. (Plot 3) After taking the fortress of doom, the allies confer a war council to decide who gets what spoils and what to do next. (Plot 4)
Well signing off after this rant. Any comments would be welcome.
Twinswords

By popular demand From finn`s site. 1. Who are you? 2. Are we friends? 3. When and how did we meet? 4. Do you have a crush on me? 5. Would you kiss me? 6. Describe me in one word. 7. What was your first impression? 8. Do you still think that way about me now? 9. What reminds you of me? 10. If you could give me anything what would it be? 11. How well do you know me? 12. When's the last time you saw me? 13. Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn't? 14. Are you going to put this on your LiveJournal and see what I say about you?
Ok ok i saw alot of ground and if it wasn`t for magical healing, bodybuilding potion and earth spells i would be greeting Jimasro. The special was a deathtrap. We were late and it was completly dark when we ic. It went something like this. Time In! 3,2,1. arrows, a lot of them and shooting to kill. We (3 renegades) just made it to the inn and were lucky that the rest of gargoyle was holed up there and let us in quickly. 10 seconds in the special, my swordarm was worthless, and our healer was down. Thank you npc`s. The rest of the evening was spent guarding and barricading the door, not letting anybody in and dealing with a level 4 plague. Fun.
During the day everything except for a few animals was calm. The champion tests were held. The circle of treachery was fun. One square, the champion candidates in it, last man standing and anything goes. Except there maybe no outside help during combat. So i boosted a fighter before the combat. He lost, a well. can`t win them all. 2 championcandidats remain to be chosen at the moots.
At night we establish a perimeter with torches and guards. But it was chosen to go to a grave and hold a ritual. It failed, huge. It scattered the faction. And several rescue`s were done. I led one to free the sergeant mayor. It was a very bloody affair the whole night. http://home-1.tiscali.nl/~kolossos/Larpsite/GGweekend2004/Seraphbloederig2.jpg The sergeant and the sergeant mayor died. And we later during the succesful ritual, killed again while they were zombies.
The next morning we went searching for the now open portal. And we took the bodies of our officers with us.(i carried a big treebranch together with a someone as psyrep for a brancard with bodies.) And shoved them personally through the portal while a battle was going with undead who didn`t want us to leave. Deathtotal 5 gargoylians dead.
I`m preparing for the ICburial. and for the drowmeet saturday.
Another week bites the dust Well a week has passed and has been pretty normal. The teacher from has decided to check paper after all. I hope it will pass. And i have began on a new paper. It`s about the history and tactical approach to the blitzkrieg. Simply how does a blitzkrieg work. I`m really shitty at making papers. But i hope to make this one better then the last.
Also a normal weekend. Without any larps, party`s and such. So i went to my dndclub. Our party consisted out of 10 men and it`s always on saturday and will continue playing even when i`m not around. For those who know him Therry plays in my group as well. As has the well known Brian but that was for my time. I`m playing a dwarf fighter. He is a tank type. (ac 25, 70 hp, not bad for 6st level with no magic to speak off.) Killed some small things. Only a sandworm was reasonably dangerous. By the way I HATE DESERTS!!!
The rest of the week is going good, and i`m preparing for the gargoyle weekend this weekend, let`s see if Riathir can live through this one. He now walks the earth for 2 years OC and has so far come a long way. 1 hp, shit spells, and a love for close combat yeah. I`m really looking for to this weekend.
The begining Well my first post. I decided to take an lj journal because an ever increasing number of my friends had one. And i want to give them an insight in my dull existence. So sit back and enjoy my ramblings and bad spelling.
I had a usual week until last thursday. I was home late because of college that was shifted from friday to thursday evening. Which gave me a whopping 7 hours to kill between lessons. I went to Amsterdam with another student and visited the niod. Which is an archive about the second world war. Then when i got home i got message that my rewrite of a paper i did couldn`t be accepted because of the previous paper. I was furious because it took me a long time to rewrite the stupid thing. We will see how this ends once i speak to the teacher.
In the weekend my first long larp of the year. Sinds i quite my parttime job to start my study agian i can`t do that many larps because i`m broke so i try to pay early and go cheap and plan them more in advance.
Shiverz was great and i had a very good time as monster. I like larpfighting a lot so i was quite happy as cannonfodder. Also had some speaking parts but one of them, a mercenary got assassinated. Problem for the player was that they got the wrong mercenary and my companion fled with the item they wanted. I also got fight several people which are normally Gamemasters. So naturally i took my revenge. I`m sure they`ll give it back next time. Looking forward to it. Spoke with several people about how things in real life. Heard some new things. But i won`t discuss them here because they and i wouldn`t like to have private conversation being put here.
Slept alot on easter monday and had my usual larpdip.
